NGest Gold provides the functionality to accurately transfer material from one format to another. All NVerzion applications are configurable in both function and form. Sometime referred to as 'Dubbing' or 'Ingesting' this software is traditionally use to 'NGest' material from tape to tape, Tape to Video Server, or Video Server to Video Server. NGest can be configured to go from one device to multiple devices. Options include interfaces to dub lists, purges lists and delete lists.
Traditional NGest accurately transfers material from a source to a destination. Choose a source and a destination device to control. Enter a name to call the clip. Find the first frame of video on the source device and mark an in point. Either enter a duration or mark an out point. Optionally enter more meta-data. Click the Record button.
This window, used for both, Source and Destination, gives you control and status about which machine you are controlling. The upper left text indicates the name of the device. It is also a drop down window that allows you to choose the device you want to control
Most NVerzion applications have a window similar to the one on the left. This window is configurable and you can add and remove meta-data fields based on your needs. You can also configure the name of each field. NGest uses this window to provide a name for the clip plus descriptive text. The location is determined from the configuration file and the duration is set by means described below.
These windows display the in point, out point and duration. You can jog and shuttle to the desired positions and click the buttons below to mark in and out points. Optionally you can edit these fields manually. Some stations choose to find in and out points and calculate the duration. Others find the in point and enter the duration. A configuration setting allows you to choose which way you want your system to run.
These buttons give you the functionality to Mark your points, Jump to those points, start the Record and Abort a record. All the buttons are optional. The Archive button requires an interface to our XPansion Archive / Storage / Distribution. Clicking this button will cause the recorded clip to be backed up to off-line or near line storage.
The upper status bar gives you a visual indication of the progress of the record. The Lower status window indicates important message as to the operation of the system
An optional Video Monitor window gives you the ability to watch what your are recording while you are recording. This feature does require additional hardware. There is a limitation to the number of low-res encoders that a single computer can support.
The Delete List Dialog, not shown above, is accessed by hitting the keys CTRL-ALT-D. This window gives you the power to select up to 20 clips on the Destination device and have them deleted. The Kill Date button allows you to delete material that is passed the user specified expiration date for that media. NOTE: We limit the number of deletes to 20 because someone accidentally selected everything and purged all their material.
Certain 'Traffic' systems provide a Dub List, or a Pull List. Depending on the meta-data provided, the window on the list can be used to implement these lists. Meta data will be automatically inserted into the fields. If the list contains timecoe information, the automation will automatically cue and record all the members of the list.
The following entries are examples of what some customers chose to do with their NGest Gold. Remember that these implementations are just different configurations of the same product. The first application is used by a Government institution to simultaneously record a space feed into 2 HD VTRs one asset management low res copy and one HD video server. The 'Template' field was a custom addition for this installation.
The following is used by a major broadcaster to set segment points while they are recording. This can be used for both program feeds and news room recording, such as promos or news shorts. The record is setup and then dead recorded. The Operator clicks the button in the lower right corner to mark in and out points for up to 19 segments. When completed, the Operator brings up the NVerzion preparation tool NPoint Gold to edit the points and, in their case, make 'New Copies' on their server. Optionally they can Archive these new clips for later usage.
Australian based Pan-TV / World Movies, uses the following NGest Gold to dub material, mostly HD long play movies, into their Leitch Nexio. Using 4 NGest Golds they can simultaneously encode 4 movies which they can then store on their NVerzion XPansion Tera Stores. The encoding of material, playout of material and creation of material is all performed by their editors. The entire operation is generally manned by only one person at a time.
